Anne Pfaelzer de Ortiz is part-time Operations Manager and Assistant to the Executive Director of DFSME. Ms. Pfaelzer de Ortiz has been active in education for 33 years, 19 of them spent teaching English and Spanish in the U.S. and South America. She also served for two years on the board of directors of George Fox Friends School in Oxford, PA. She was on the library staff and worked as a researcher at the University of Delaware. Her own research in economic history has been published in The Journal of American Studies (1999), and she has co-edited a book in the Max Kade German-American Research Series entitled Souls for Sale: Two German Redemptioners Come to Revolutionary America (2006). She is a professional editor of and researcher for scholarly books and articles through her company, Pfaelzer Consulting, Inc. Her chequered career has included a stint selling table umbrellas to outdoor cafés, another as a floral designer, and yet another as an executive chef. She is also an entrepreneur, having started and run a motorcycle sales and rental agency and a company that manufactures industrial drums, fiberglass mud guards and wind deflectors for automobiles and truck fleets. 

Ms. Pfaelzer de Ortiz received her B.S. in Education from the University of Delaware. She has accrued over 50 credits at the graduate level in Education, English, and Book Arts at more universities than she cares to remember.

In her leisure time, Ms. Pfaelzer de Ortiz enjoys gardening, reading, weaving and bookbinding. She participates in animal rescue, and measures the weather in her back yard by the number of cats above zero.
