Nancy served on the Delaware State Board of Education from 1993 until 1999 and has served on the Brandywine Board of Education since then.  A former teacher at elementary, secondary and higher education levels, she holds degrees in elementary education, geology and computer science, and has completed the coursework for a doctorate in educational leadership at Columbia University.

While on the State Board, Nancy initiated the formation of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Teacher Project, a six-state K-20 collaborative working to improve student access to effective teachers.  She also proposed the new regional designation, the Meritorious New Teacher Candidate, which allows the best and brightest new teachers to gain barrier-free regional reciprocity and preference in hiring.

Nancy serves on the Board of Directors and as Education Chair of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League, and on their behalf serves as the Pilot Coordinator for the Statewide Academic Growth Assessment Pilot.  She also does educational consulting in the areas of teacher quality and leadership.
